Mooresville, NC – When summing up the life of Eric Norris, one can say that he’s just about done it all. One of Hollywood’s most sought after stuntmen; Norris has dozens of appearances in feature films. In addition, Norris has also worked behind the camera directing films and television programs. Some of Eric’s biggest moments, however, have happened behind of the wheel of a 3,400 lb stock car. Today Eric Norris has set his goals on a new mission, to compete full time, in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series.
2002 saw Eric lead his self-owned team, Norris Racing, to the NASCAR Grand National West Championship. Norris set a blistering pace, winning the championship by 119 points. Norris, driving the Jani-King sponsored Ford Taurus, tallied 2 wins, 8 Top-Five’s and 10 Top-Ten finishes en route to the Championship. His win at 2-mile California Speedway epitomized the season. Norris started the race on the pole and led all but eight laps.
Eric Norris has been racing since 1982, when his father, internationally acclaimed actor and martial arts legend Chuck Norris, first introduced him to the sport. The father-son duo teamed up to compete in the highly popular SCORE/HDRA Off-Road racing series throughout the early and mid 1980's.
While Chuck continued to race trucks and boats during his busy career as a movie star, Eric focused on his studies at Arizona State University. Eric resumed his passion for auto racing in 1993. Since then, Eric has competed successfully in the NASCAR Busch Series, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, NASCAR Grand National West Series, the Formula Ford 2000 Series and the Sportsman's Series at Willow Springs Raceway in California.
In 1997, Norris entered four Craftsman Truck Series events, posting his best finish, 13th, at the famous road course at Watkins Glen, NY. Eric formed his own NASCAR Winston West team the following year. Norris competed in 14 of 16 Winston West series events and finished 14th in the final point’s standings. In 1999, Eric and the team made huge strides with 2 Top-Five’s and 5 Top-10 finishes and a Top 10 finish in the point’s standings. Eric claimed his first series victory in 2000, mastering the bullring at Mesa Marin Speedway in Bakersfield, CA. He would go on to garner 3 Top-Five and 5 Top 10 finishes. In 2001, Eric drew closer to the coveted championship, with 4 Top-Five’s and 8 Top-10 finishes, while finishing 5th in the series points standings.
In 2004, Norris competed in two Craftsman Truck Series races. While piloting the # 7 Dodge for team owner Jim Smith, he qualified 13th for the Silverado 350K at Texas Motor Speedway and finished 14th in the season finale Ford 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Norris’ impressive finish garnered him the “Waste Management Picking Up The Places Award”, given to the driver who gained the most positions during the race.
During 2005, Norris raced at Las Vegas and California in the NASCAR BUSCH Series. Norris secured a limited sponsorship from Dallas, TX based Pavestone Company to run in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. He will be competing in four races in Texas, Kentucky, Las Vegas and Atlanta.
Update: Norris posted a 12th place finish in the June 10th Chex 400K at Texas Motor Speedway Eric finished a disappointing 32nd in Kentucky on July 9th when a broken drive shaft end
the night, he was running in 11 position.
